One thing I was glad to have been told by a friend who had had LASIK already is that I'd smell the burning. I did smell it and was glad I had some idea that would happen as no one else had told me about that.
Obviously I can't go back and redo it without that knowledge but I'm glad I wasn't surprised by that.

Oh yeah, totally! I didn’t notice a burning smell but I’ve heard other people mention it.
